First holiday feeling

21 december 2015 - Vilanculos, Mozambique

The next day I start travelling south. Beira was nice, but I saw enough and my clothes and books are almost dry. Next stop will be Vilankulos. The ride in a chappa is frustrating with a lot of stops where everybody has to get out when somebody leaves the bus and then even more people are pushed into the bus. I realize this is not the safest way of travelling and I decide that I will not travel by chappa anymore. There are bigger busses running between big cities. There is only once bus daily and they start early in the morning, but they are more quick and more comfortable. In Vilankulos I take a bed in a dorm and I am happy to finally arrive somewhere where I will stay three nights. The coming days I eat, drink, read and relax in the hostel with a Polish girl, an Italian boy and girl and a South African couple. A lot of South African people go to Mozambique during the Christmas holiday. They take their tents and a lot of food and drinks to spend as less as possible in Mozambique. I think they are comparable to the German tourists who drive in one go the coast in the Netherlands. The Mozambique people are not very fond of them. One day I go on a trip to some island with white beaches and blue clear water. We snorkel along some reefs and try to not get sunburned. The other day I go to the market and buy a sarong. Later in Malawi I will bring it to a tailor for a custom made dress. The holiday feeling started. I expected that I would feel restless after almost two years of intense internships. The past months I also started working three to four days a week to afford this trip and I was involved in volunteer work. Now I feel so tired that I prefer to not do anything and Vilankulos is a good place for this.
